9-1-1: Nashville offers a fresh new direction for the franchise, but it bears striking similarities to an ABC hit from the early 2010s. The second spinoff in the first-responder series has garnered plenty of attention ahead of its fall 2025 premiere, with impossible 9-1-1: Nashville fan theories already circulating online.
Beyond speculation, however, the procedural’s upcoming debut is highly anticipated. From 9-1-1: Nashville’s unique setting to its intriguing cast, the Tennessee-based installment of the beloved firefighter franchise is bound to make waves. While there will certainly be bold changes from its two preceding titles, 9-1-1: Nashville won’t necessarily be an entirely new concept. In fact, it may harken back to an iconic musical series set in the same titular city. 9-1-1: Nashville Features A Firefighter Moonlighting As A Singer Station 113 Has An Artist In Its Midst Though 9-1-1: Nashville’s Station 113 will be led by Chris O’Donnell as Don , another firefighter will be at the center of some major music city subplots. Per her original character description, Hailey Kilgore’s Taylor is not only a capable firefighter— she is an extremely talented singer. Like its predecessors, 9-1-1: Nashville will undoubtedly include weird and wacky emergencies, but Taylor’s musical passion is clearly a pivotal part of her character. As such, it’s possible that Taylor will be caught between two worlds, trying to reconcile her duty as a member of the Nashville fire department and her potential dreams of pursuing a country music career. ABC’s Nashville Followed Fictional Singers With Original Songs To Boot The Soap Produced Plenty Of Real Country Music If Taylor showcases her singing in 9-1-1: Nashville and undergoes an entire country music subplot, it would be an interesting change of pace for the franchise— but it would be far from original in the grand scheme of things. In fact, ABC itself had an entire series dedicated to aspiring country singers in Tennessee, in the aptly named Nashville. ABC aired the first four seasons of Nashville, with the musical soap moving to CMT for its final two years. The 9-1-1: Nashville cast even features Kimberly Williams-Paisely, a Nashville alum. While the soap included covers of iconic country tracks, Nashville released upwards of 300 original songs during its 6-year run. Years after its series finale, Nashville’s biggest hits keep the show’s fanbase alive and well. Of course, that doesn’t mean 9-1-1: Nashville can follow in its footsteps. Will 9-1-1: Nashville Release Original Songs? It's Possible But Unlikely The music scene in 9-1-1: Nashville will be a fun twist, but it shouldn’t hijack the show completely. If Taylor had an arc devoted solely to songwriting, it could provide a natural set-up for an original song or two. After all, licensing fees for covers are bound to pile up, depending on how extensive the music subplots will be. Nevertheless, 9-1-1: Nashville can’t abandon its true purpose. The procedural’s chief responsibility is honoring first responders. The characters all have nuanced lives, dreams, and goals, but 9-1-1: Nashville can’t lose sight of what made the original such a beloved title in the first place— even if it’s at the expense of a modern country classic.
