The child died after he was found in a creek in Roxbury Township in Morris County, authorities said.

Detectives in Morris County are investigating the death Wednesday of an 8-year-old boy who drowned in a creek, authorities said.

Roxbury police were called about 3:35 p.m. to a home in the Flanders section of the township on a report of a child in a nearby creek, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll. “Attempts were made by the Roxbury Township Police Department and paramedics to resuscitate the child but were unsuccessful,” Carroll said in a statement.“While the investigation remains ongoing, the incident has been deemed not suspicious at this time,” Carroll said.

Carroll said the prosecutor’s office and township police are investigating the boy’s death as a drowning. He did not identify the victim or his family. Anyone with information about the child’s death is asked to call Roxbury police at 973-448-2100 or the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200.
