The plans for the swimming complex would revolve around competitive use, not use as a recreational facility.

Representatives from SwimHershey said that the swimming complex would be a draw for events across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast as the next nearest comparable facility is found in Richmond, Virginia.

“The charitable purpose of the Project shall be to: advance multi-sport aquatic education programs and resources to hundreds, and potentially thousands, of regional residents who have limited or no access to instructional and developmental aquatics,” reads a. “Our programming will provide future access to neighboring high schools without pools and on those less fortunate in our communities who need training opportunity to provide for their future.

SwimHershey representatives confirmed that, with the current plan for development, the majority of traffic to the site is expected to come through Hersheypark Drive, but the type of competition is expected to generate a relatively steady flow of traffic rather than heavy concentrations found at other types of sporting events.
