Some Star Wars characters use more than just one lightsaber blade. Red is often linked with the Sith, but how many characters use both red and blue?
The lightsaber is an iconic weapon used by Jedi and Sith alike in Star Wars, with some characters going so far as wielding multiple versions of the weapon. The Jedi favor a variety of lightsaber colors, with blue being the most popularly depicted on screen, while the Sith almost exclusively wield red lightsabers. Despite this, there are several instances of members of both Orders deviating from the normal color options.
After Anakin’s fall to the dark side, he uses a hallmark red blade of the Sith. Since his blue lightsaber was taken by Obi-Wan Kenobi after their duel on Mustafar, Anakin was forced to acquire and bleed a new kyber crystal for his Sith weapon. The new hilt of the red saber that he constructed as Darth Vader bears a strong resemblance to the styling of his blue blade, perhaps a nod to Anakin’s reluctance to let things go.
5 Ben Solo / Kylo Ren As the son of Princess Leia and Han Solo, it’s no surprise that Kylo Ren was originally trained as a Jedi when he was going by the name Ben Solo. Taught by Luke Skywalker, Ben used a lightsaber with a blue blade throughout his Jedi years, and eventually sought to possess his grandfather’s blue lightsaber after its reappearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Rey’s journey through her Jedi journey wasn’t without a few bumps in the road. In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey is given a Force vision that shows her as the Sith Empress Palpatine, complete with a red double-bladed lightsaber. Even though this was only a vision, the visual of Rey as a dark side Force user was very compelling, and many theories circulated that she might fall similarly to Anakin or Ben Solo.
2 Luke Skywalker The first lightsaber ever seen on screen was a blue blade ignited by Luke Skywalker in A New Hope. Given to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi, who took the weapon from Mustafar after defeating the newly anointed Darth Vader, the lightsaber helped inspire Luke to become a Jedi. Though he loses the saber along with his hand toVader in their fight on Cloud City and he creates a new green blade of his own, that blue lightsaber is what made Luke the iconic hero he is.
