550 pedestrians, bicyclists hit in Cleveland last year.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - According to a new report from Bike Cleveland, 550 people total were hit by cars in the city in 2023. Of those 550 people, 382 were pedestrians and 133 were bicyclists.
Bike Cleveland believes that these numbers could even be larger than this, with many crashes going unreported, “Studies have found that as many as 44-75% of pedestrian crashes and 7-46% percent of bicyclist crashes may be missing from police-reported crash data”. The 550 pedestrians struck, according to Bike Cleveland, shows a legitimate problem that needs fixing. “This is unacceptable and there is a critical need for enhanced safety measures and infrastructure improvements,” Bike Cleveland said in the report.
Ward three saw the most collisions by a wide margin with 84 total in 2023. That broke down to: 19 bikes/scooters, 65 pedestrians/wheelchair, seven kids and two fatalities. Ward’s 11 and 15 had the next closest number of pedestrians struck with 39.North Olmsted police arrest 1 after shots fired at gas station
