A 5-year-old girl died Saturday night after she was hit by a car on the city’s West Side, police said.

The crash happened about 6:20 p.m. on West 50th Street in the city’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said. The girl ran into the street between two parked cars and was struck by a dark, four-door sedan.

The girl was thrown forward by the crash, and the car subsequently ran over the girl, Ciaccia said. The driver of the car did not stop at the time of the crash. The girl, whose name has not been publicly released, was taken to MetroHealth, where she died hours later, Ciaccia said. Following the crash, the passenger in the car that struck the girl returned to the scene, Ciaccia said. During the initial investigation, authorities arrested one female suspect and towed a vehicle.

No additional details about the crash were released Sunday morning. This post will be updated if more information is provided Sunday.
