According to the SAPD, the 30-year-old officer was driving a gray Honda Civic in the Walmart parking lot on Potranco when some words and gestures were exchanged with a 40-year-old man driving a blue minivan.The officer had two family members in his car. Previous reports indicated that a 24-year-old woman was in the front passenger seat and a 4-year-old child in the back. The man had a female passenger in the front seat.
The officer drove away from the confrontation without any physical contact or physical threat being made to the other man, SAPD said. The man was seen on video entering his vehicle and following the Civic. According to the SAPD, the 40-year-old pulled alongside the Civic and pointed a handgun at the officer, spurring the Schertz officer to fire his gun at the man. Both the man and a female passenger were struck. The man was hit in the arms and chest.
