Samuel hadn’t been shy about the loss. Back in February, he appeared on Sirius XM’s “Mad Dog Sports Radio” and said the 49ers would’ve beaten the Eagles by double digits if quarterback Brock Purdy hadn’t been injured. In May,But when asked about the loss by Gelb on Monday, Samuel was reluctant to speak.The Eagles will host the 49ers
in a Week 13 rematch of the NFC championship game during the 2023 season, but Samuel didn’t have any predictions to offer.At that point, a woman’s voice chimed in to tell a surprised Gelb, “Hey, guys, alright, we’re good to go,” ending the interview. “Are you serious?” Gelb said following the interview, which he said was supposed to last 15 minutes. “All we did was ask him about the quarterback situation and then Philadelphia, and we got hung up on by Deebo Samuel? That’s a joke! That’s an absolute joke!”
Samuel’s retreat is the latest in what has become an ongoing series of incidents where 49ers players and coaches who still appear bitter over their NFC championship loss to the Eagles. In May, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said his wife, Mandy, won’t be traveling to Philadelphia to attend their rematch this season because of how she was treated“She didn’t like her fan experience in the stands. So she’s not going this time.”
