With just over five minutes left in the first half, Samuel took a handoff up the middle for three yards before Bucs linebacker Anthony Nelson took him down to the ground. The 26-year-old's body was contorted during the tackle, causing him to fumble the football and remain on the grass in pain.under his own power, but a cart was eventually brought out for him.
Prior to his injury, Samuel had been a pivotal contributor to Brock Purdy's breakout performance in the quarterback's first NFL start. He kicked off the Niners' scoring onslaught in the first half with a 13-yard touchdown run, and had caught four passes for 43 yards. Samuel has had a pretty healthy season so far, only missing one game — the 31-14 win against the Los Angeles Rams — due to a hamstring injury.
