North West Ambulance Service confirmed they treated 39 people at a protest in Southport . A major incident was declared by emergency services on St Lukes's Road, Southport on Tuesday, July 30. and cars belonging to members of the public were set on fire. A spokesperson for the ambulance service said they treated 39 patients in total, all of which were police officers . Twenty-seven were taken to hospital and 12 were treated and discharged at scene.

Merseyside Police said several officers sustained serious injuries including fractures, lacerations, a suspected broken nose and concussion. Other officers suffered head injuries and serious facial injuries. One was knocked unconscious.
