Bricks taken from garden walls were used to attack officers
North West Ambulance Service confirmed they treated 39 people at a protest in Southport . A major incident was declared by emergency services on St Lukes's Road, Southport on Tuesday, July 30. and cars belonging to members of the public were set on fire. A spokesperson for the ambulance service said they treated 39 patients in total, all of which were police officers . Twenty-seven were taken to hospital and 12 were treated and discharged at scene.

A spokesperson added: 'We'd like to thank the many staff and other emergency service colleagues who have worked extremely hard over the last few hours in response to the disturbance.' Merseyside Police said several officers sustained serious injuries including fractures, lacerations, a suspected broken nose and concussion. Other officers suffered head injuries and serious facial injuries. One was knocked unconscious.
