A 29-year-old woman was arrested and charged with murder after sheriff's say she sold fentanyl to a 19-year-old woman, which led to her death in February.of a 19-year-old female who was found in her bed, unresponsive. The teen was pronounced deceased. Officials conducted a search in the room, where a small white powdery substance was found, it was later confirmed to be fentanyl.
BCSO Narcotics Unit began an investigation due to the nature of the victim's death and to determine how the teen came into possession of the fentanyl. An autopsy was performed, which confirmed the main cause of death was an overdose from fentanyl. Investigators discovered that the victim purchased the fentanyl in Austin the night before she died. Officials were able to identify the selling suspect.Officials arrested Alba Karina Canales after a murder warrant was issued, and was found to be in possession of fentanyl and other illegal narcotics. Canales has a history of drug usage and trafficking. She is currently in the Bastrop County Jail with a $100,000.00 bond.
Bastrop Sheriffs Office says," Under a relatively new state law, a person can be prosecuted for Murder if a person furnishes fentanyl to someone who later dies from a fentanyl overdose."
