Friday, March 27, 2026 4:57AMA $28-million development project broke ground in San Bernardino and is expected to offer affordable housing to homeless and low-income veterans. The project, known as the E Street development, will bring 30 one- and two-bedroom homes to the Inland Empire.
Each unit will have modern kitchens and bathrooms, on-site laundry and other amenities intended to provide comfort and stability for veterans. "San Bernardino has been hard hit with homelessness ... but these homes are a template for what can happen, not only in San Bernardino, but in throughout our country," said veteran Leon Matlock. U.S.VETS and Kingdom Development are leading the effort with support from a coalition of public and private partners. The Jewish National Fund is among the organizations contributing to what participants described as a patriotic and meaningful project. "A groundbreaking moment for those whose lives will be forever transformed by this magnificent development," said Richard Hirschaut of the Jewish National Fund."Our role is to bridge a critical gap for veterans and families working hard just to stay housed," Nicole Starks-Murray with U.S.VETS. San Bernardino Mayor Helen Tran said the development is expected to have a deep impact on those it serves. "This 30-unit, affordable housing community will provide more than just a roof over someone's head, it will offer stability, dignity, and a pathway to independence for veterans who need it the most," she said.Copyright © 2026 KABC Television, LLC.
