A 28-year-old man was charged on Thursday with attacking a 79-year-old Orange County man with a skateboard earlier this week. Jacob Riley Manndavis appeared in court where he was charged with attempted murder , assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting injury on an elder adult, receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a felon, all of which are felonies.
Additionally, Manndavis faces sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily injury on an elder, personal use of a deadly weapon and crime against a vulnerable victim. Police were called to the 700 block of W. 19th Street in Costa Mesa early Wednesday morning after receiving reports of a man armed with a gun in the area. Upon arrival, they found Manndavis, who fled from the area. They were able to catch up with him a short distance later and take him into custody. They found a loaded Glock at the scene, which they linked to a vehicle break-in in the area, as well as an attack that happened on Tuesday. That attack, which involved the 79-year-old victim, happened in the 600 block of W. 19th Street, police said. The man was hospitalized with head wounds he suffered in the attack but is expected to make a full recovery, according to Costa Mesa police. Manndavis did not enter a plea at his arraignment on Friday, which has been rescheduled until Monday. He was previously convicted of a different felony in 2023 for an attempted robbery, prosecutors noted
