MASON COUNTY, Ky. - Residents of a mobile home park in Mason County — many of them elderly or disabled — say they are being forced to relocate as a proposed data center project moves forward near Maysville. Twenty-eight residents of Meadowland Village received notice over the weekend that the property is under contract for sale to an unnamed artificial intelligence company seeking to build a 2,000-acre “hyperscale data center complex.” Residents of a mobile home park in Mason County — many of them elderly or disabled — say they are being forced to relocate as a proposed data center project moves forward near Maysville. The effort is part of a broader push by the company to acquire land in the area, offering some property owners up to 10 times market value. In this case, however, tenants who own their homes but rent the land could be displaced if the sale is completed. Roger Purcell, a resident who recently had a stroke, said the development had been anticipated but still came as a shock. “When they started talking about the AI, I had a feeling it was coming,” Purcell said. “But it’s the realization of it being here—and all this is happening now—and, you know, it’s just taking everybody aback. Everybody just doesn't know what to do.” A notice from the landlord states, “The mobile home park is presently under contract with a potential purchaser,” and adds that the developer has agreed to place $20,000 in escrow for each current lessee to help cover relocation or purchase costs.“A lot of people here, they don’t know what they’re going to do,” Purcell said. "There are no trailer courts around here enough to even absorb probably half of these trailers.” Rico Roberts, who has lived in the park for 20 years, said the payment would not be enough to cover moving costs or secure new housing. "My wife and I both on Social Security, living on a budget,” Roberts said. “I don’t have the money to buy a $150,000 house. So, I guess I have no choice but to stay here, ride it out, and see what happens. And then, when the sheriff comes to throw me off, I guess I’ll skedaddle up out of here.” Pastor Gregory Jones, who recently underwent knee surgery, criticized the situation and called for more support from the developer and property owner. “How ungodly could you be, you know?” said Pastor Jones. “Where’s your kindness? Where’s your care? Where’s your love for people?” “I’m hoping that the company steps up, man, and gives a lump of money to these people,” said Pastor Jones. “And me too, so we can all move out of here and buy a piece of property to put on and never have to face this issue again.”The project still faces several hurdles, including a required zoning change and final site selection among multiple potential locations. An anti-data center group also filed a lawsuit last week seeking to block the development. The Mason County zoning commission could vote on the proposed zoning change as soon as its next scheduled meeting, Wednesday.BULVERDE, Texas - Hill College Prep High School has been put on lockdown.Principal Julie Wiley said in the alert that local law enforcement is on campus.
