After a well-received, often hilarious debut stint last year, Conan O'Brien returns to host the 98th Academy Awards, live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Hollywood's biggest night appears poised to be largely a head-to-head competition between Paul Thomas Anderson's political action thriller, One Battle After Another, and Ryan Coogler's blockbuster vampire picture, Sinners, nominated for 13 and a record-breaking 16 awards, respectively.
The 2026 Oscars airs on ABC and Hulu at 8 p.m. ET on March 15. Among the categories to keep an eye on are, of course, Best Picture, where Anderson's longstanding season frontrunner faces the possibility of a Sinners upset. Best Actor has been a wild card this entire awards season, with one-time frontrunner Timothée Chalamet in Marty Supreme now considered likely to lose to Michael B. Jordan in Sinners, or perhaps even Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent. If there's one major category that is considered a lock going into the evening, it's Jessie Buckley winning Best Actress for harrowing work in Chloé Zhao's historical tragedy, Hamnet. While many details of the ceremony itself remain under wraps, it's reported that the late Rob Reiner will be honored with a notable tribute.
