Sa ulat ng GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog, na iniulat din sa Saksi, kinilala ang mga biktima na sina Marvin Sid-ay at Mark Aldrin Siringan.Sinabi ng kanilang kaibigan na nagpaalam ang dalawa na maglalakad sa kabilang bahagi ng dalampasigan.
Ayon sa mga lokal na awtoridad, posibleng nataranta ang magkaibigan nang biglang lumalim ang tubig sa pinuntahan nilang sandbar.
