Kadiwa trended on Twitter on Friday as consumers endured long queues to buy onions for just P170 a kilo. Long lines formed in various Kadiwa ng Pasko outlets as the Department of Agriculture offered white and red onions for P170 per kilo. Kadiwa ng Pasko stores are located in Barangay Poblacion, Mandaluyong City; Barangay Rizal, Makati City; DA Central Office in Quezon City; Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City; and Gate 15 Parola Compound, Tondo, Manila.
The DA said at least 545 kilos of freshly harvested red and white onions from Nueva Ecija arrived at the Kadiwa Center main office. Consumers are only allowed to buy one kilo. Agriculture Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Kristine Evangelista said that the cheap onions will be available at the Kadiwa on Wheels on December 30 and 31, 2022. The retail prices of red onions reached as high as P720 per kilo amid tight supply.
