SPANISH FORK, Utah — Two teenage girls are in critical condition after they were hit by a car Saturday afternoon.
Spanish Fork Police said the two girls were attempting to cross Canyon Road at 2300 East. They wrote in a press release that the girls"darted out into traffic. They were hit by a Kia Soul traveling east on Canyon Road. Both girls were taken to local hospitals and then airlifted to Primary Children's Hospital, where they were in critical condition as of Saturday evening.Christopher Carroll lives nearby and was driving down Canyon Road when he saw the incident. He immediately pulled over and rushed to do what he could to help the two girls.
"You have all the kids in this neighborhood trying to get across this road that's 40+ miles an hour and completely uncontrolled. It's just not safe," Carroll said."I got pretty mad that we don't have a light here yet and I keep hearing 'It's in the works, it was supposed to be done, it's coming, it's coming.' Now you've got two children fighting for their lives in the hospital.
FOX 13 News reached out to Spanish Fork City about the traffic light. They said it is a UDOT-controlled intersection, but they are working with UDOT to get the traffic signal completed. They say the project is currently out to bid and they anticipate awarding the bid in the first couple days of June.
