The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Diontranet Tinae Brown, 35, of Birmingham, and Tremayne Javahn Long, 37, of Bessemer. They are the fourth and fifth homicide victims in the city in seven days.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed Brown to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m. “We do not believe this was a random shooting,’’ Fitzgerald said. “It is unclear if the victim was the intended target.” Long was shot at 12:40 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Third Avenue West, according to coroner’s officials.
He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:16 a.m., becoming the fifth homicide victim in the city in seven days.The deadly shootings marked Birmingham’s 116th and 117th homicide this year. Of those, eight have been ruled justifiable and two happened in previous years and died in 2024.
