The shooting happened just before 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of Third Avenue.

An investigation is underway after a shooting on Birmingham’s busy Third Avenue West on Tuesday night left three people injured, including two children.Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said a man and woman and two juveniles were traveling on the roadway when someone in another vehicle opened fire on the victims. The family’s SUV was struck at least a dozen times and Shot Spotter registered about 20 rounds fired.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service transported the man to UAB Hospital.
