“However, in this instance, our Ski Patrol team did respond and worked alongside local search-and-rescue teams to assess the area and conduct necessary activity as the result of this out-of-bounds avalanche event,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. Sorey told the Tribune that both skiers had entered an area known as Rattlesnake just outside of the resort near High Meadows Trail, and that the police coordinated search and rescue that was assisted by four patrollers from Heavenly Ski Patrol. Once the victims were located, local air ambulances Calstar and Careflight were aided by CHP Air Operations to transport them to the hospital.
On Thursday, Caltrans reported that Carson Spur had been closed for avalanche control and the road did not reopen until the following morning. Travel was impeded throughout Lake Tahoe as
