A deadly shooting outside a Food-4-Less store in Indio has resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect. The victim, a 26-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene following a gunshot wound. Police say the incident stemmed from an argument inside the store that escalated into a physical altercation and ultimately a fatal shooting.
Indio police have apprehended a 19-year-old suspect, Gideon Gonzalez Jr., in connection with a fatal shooting that transpired outside a Food-4-Less grocery store on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 5:40 PM at the store located in the 82000 block of Highway 111. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 26-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Witnesses reported observing the suspect fleeing the area southeast through the shopping center, where he was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement. Police confirmed the recovery of a firearm at the crime scene. Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the suspect and the victim. Witnesses stated that the argument began inside the store and escalated into a physical confrontation outside. As the victim attempted to flee, the suspect reportedly drew a gun and fired, fatally wounding him.Gonzalez Jr. was taken into custody the following morning and booked into jail. He is currently being held without bail, with a bail amount set at $1 million.
