Butler Chapel A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church in Greenville has been a pillar of the community since 1867.
) - A south Alabama church is receiving recognition for its historical contributions. The church has many credits to its name, including housing the county’s first school for African Americans.
Now, that legacy is being preserved for future generations. A new historical marker is now planted in front of the church to honor its contributions to the community. This is a designation church officials hope will bring recognition of what this church represents. As for the future, longtime church member Diaon Cook hopes this church, and other local churches, not only honor their history but also continue to make history in the years ahead.
