A 15-year-old student who shot a Texas high school teacher before fatally shooting himself had been 'experiencing academic challenges,' law enforcement said. The teacher remained hospitalized Tuesday, the Comal County Sheriff’s Office said.
The student died at the scene. Their names have not been released. The sheriff's office said in a statement that the student in Monday’s shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory High School used a .357 revolver that he brought from his home. Detectives executed a search warrant at the home and seized several electronic devices, according to the department. The devices are undergoing forensic examination 'in an effort to learn more about the student’s actions and possible motive,' law enforcement said. Authorities have not said what led to the shooting. The sheriff’s office said it is believed the student had academic challenges, including failing several classes, according to the news release. 'Authorities are continuing to gather information to better understand the circumstances leading up to the incident,' the sheriff’s office said. Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said at a Monday news conference that investigators are looking into whether the teen was a current student of the teacher. The high school in Bulverde, about 27 miles north of San Antonio, was closed on Tuesday. The shooting remains an active investigation.
