A 12-year-old girl in Chicago tragically died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday evening. Police are investigating how the girl accessed a gun from a lockbox in her home.
A 12-year-old girl tragically lost her life after accidentally shooting herself in the abdomen in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. Chicago police responded to a call at 6:52 p.m. on Sunday regarding a self-inflicted gunshot wound at an apartment in the 7100 block of South Constance Avenue. The victim's mother was reportedly the one who discovered the child and immediately contacted 911. According to dispatch audio, there were other children present at the scene.
The 12-year-old girl was rushed to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries less than an hour later. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Priscilla McCullough. The 911 dispatch audio revealed that the gun involved in the tragic incident was taken from a lockbox inside the home. The recovered gun was left at the scene. As of Sunday evening, Chicago police were diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding this horrific event. It remains unclear how the young girl gained access to the firearm. No arrests had been made as of late Sunday, and detectives from the Wentworth Area are leading the investigation
