$100 million project would transform area around Santa Ana River into family-friendly destination
Nearly two miles of the Santa Ana River outside of the Honda Center in Anaheim will soon be transformed into a destination where families and visitors can hang out."We are looking to create a real riverfront with recreation, gathering spaces and yes, even water," Mayor Ashleigh Aitken said.
The project could cost about $100 million and would include the expansion of trails in and around the river."It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, or what you do, bridges and trails unite us all," Aitken said.In addition, a 150-foot bridge would extend across Katella Avenue, connecting ARTIC transit center with the Honda Center.
"These bridges and trails will link us with public transit, nature, fun and entertainment, and our neighboring communities," Aitken said. Anaheim's vision of transforming the area is moving forward with a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. "So Anaheim, when I tell you that the Department of Transportation is pleased to award you $5 million for the Building Bridges to Transit project; that means a lot," Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy Christopher Coes said.

Fine singing, weird stagings in Santa Fe Opera’s ‘Rusalka’ and ‘Flying Dutchman’Review: Of the three Santa Fe Opera productions I saw this year, at least Netia Jones’ reimagining of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande didn’t get too much in... The eponymous water nymph falls in love with a Prince, but can win him only by being turned into a human. The witch Jezibaba works the necessary magic, but at great price. Rusalka becomes beautiful, but speechless, and if she fails to win the Prince’s lasting love, she’ll be turned into a flickering will-o’-the-wisp. She then can be redeemed only by killing the faithless Prince

Norway river dam partly collapses after floodsA dam on a Norwegian river partly collapsed on Wednesday, sending water gushing through a gaping hole in the middle of the structure after days of heavy flooding in the area, TV images showed. The Braskereidfoss power dam on the Glomma river, Norway's biggest waterway, had been unable to open its hatches after its control room flooded. Police earlier considered blowing one of the hatches of the 45-year-old dam to help relieve the situation, but decided against doing so as the explosion would have been difficult to control.
