Man of Steel showed a lot of promise for DC, but ten years later, the Snyderverse never managed to live up to the film's potential. Henry Cavill's debut as Superman was the first movie for the hero since Brandon Routh donned the iconic red and blue suit in 2006's Superman Returns. Man of Steel was the movie that began the DCEU and the Snyderverse with it. Director Zack Snyder's work at DC proved itself controversial, and his use of Superman was no exception.
Jonathan Kent's death was one of the more controversial moments of the DCEU. It sits alongside the decision to have Superman commit murder in his debut movie. Superman killing Michael Shannon's Zod is undoubtedly the biggest moment in Man of Steel, and while it might have seemed out of character, Snyder's choice ultimately put Clark through his greatest moment of despair so that he could eventually come out as his hopeful self.
Superman's Story Got No Closure After Snyder and the DCEU parted ways, Cavill's Superman did not get the narrative ending that he deserved, with the character being bizarrely forgotten, despite Superman being the most iconic comic book superhero to exist. Cavill's Superman had murdered, died, and come back to life in the span of his three DCEU movies, barring post-credits scenes.
Cavill Is The Perfect Superman Actor, But He Didn't Get To Show It Cavill loves the character, and his acting credits show that he could have excelled as Superman if he got the chance to play the character more closely to what he is like in the comics and most other media. Some of his scenes at DC showed how he was the perfect Superman actor, bringing together an intimidating physique with natural charisma.
