A fifth-grade student at Jefferson Elementary School in Seguin, Texas was arrested after allegedly bringing cocaine onto campus. The student was identified after another student found a small bag of white powder inside a desk. The Seguin Police Department confirmed the substance was cocaine. The student was detained and transported to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Probation Department.

A 10-year-old Jefferson Elementary School student was arrested Wednesday after allegedly bringing cocaine onto campus, according to Seguin Police. Officers were dispatched to the Seguin Independent School District campus at around 9:43 a.m. after a student reported finding a small, clear bag containing a white substance inside a desk. The Seguin Police Department said it conducted a field test of the substance and confirmed it was cocaine.

The juvenile was detained and transported to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Probation Department on a charge of possession of a substance in a drug-free zone. It’s unclear where the child obtained the cocaine. Jefferson Elementary School Principal Maria Guerra sent an email informing families of the incident, writing that the student will face disciplinary actions “per school policy and the law.
