A 10-year-old boy was arrested after driving a stolen car through a busy Minneapolis playground. Local authorities report that the boy has had over 30 police contacts in the past 18 months. Despite his history, officials believe prison is not a viable option for such a young child. Police in Minneapolis have arrested and charged a 10-year-old boy who drove a reportedly stolen Hyundai Sonata through a crowded playground near Nellie Stone Johnson Community School on September 20.

The Minnesota Star Tribune says the boy has been arrested at least twice in the past for auto theft-related crimes and is listed as a suspect in more than 12 cases, including auto theft and assault with a dangerous weapon. One of the auto thefts he’s been charged with occurred when he was just nine years old.
