The first movie in a franchise may introduce some great main characters, but there’s no guarantee their arc will still shine in sequel after sequel.
A film franchise can't survive without an ensemble of likable characters, however, that doesn't always mean that every cast member gets the storyline they deserve in every single movie, especially as more and more sequels are released. In this list, the following characters are those who were considered vital main characters and had important plots in the original first movies of their franchise, but quickly fell to the wayside in later films.
9 Rogue In X2 Despite having a full cast of interesting characters, the X-Men film franchise has rarely done justice to their cast, and in particular, Rogue got the short end of the stick. Played by Anna Paquin, Rogue is a notoriously complex superhero character whose power of skin-to-skin absorption makes her especially angsty and interesting.
6 Trinity In The Matrix Revolutions Yet another love interest sidelined in their franchise is Trinity from The Matrix. Trinity is first introduced as a computer hacker who escaped the Matrix. Over the course of the first film her and Neo form a romantic relationship, and in the second, Neo saves Trinity's life. However, in The Matrix Revolutions, Trinity does not return stronger than ever.
