From premature deaths to wasted story potential, these characters that have already exited the MCU ultimately deserved different fates.

Among the many characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are plenty who didn’t deserve their fates. The MCU moving well into the Multiverse Saga means that plenty of characters have already come and gone. However, there are several characters who might not have gotten the endings they deserved.

2 Maria Hill When Secret Invasion was first announced, it seemed as if MCU icon Maria Hill was finally going to get the spotlight she deserved. The former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent has played smaller roles in the MCU since Phase 1, and the Phase 5 show was said to be a deeper look into Hill’s character. However, fans were shocked to witness the character’s death after just one episode. Not only was Hill’s death sudden, but it felt insulting to Maria Hill’s legacy.

Malekith’s full potential wasn’t explored in Thor: The Dark World to make way for Jane Foster and the Aether, and the neglect of his character was clear in how lackluster he was. He even died in a silly way, getting crushed by his own warship. Keeping Malekith alive for future projects would’ve kept the Dark Elves around, giving the MCU another interesting race to explore. Even if the MCU only wanted to contain Malekith to one film, they still could have utilized his comic origins better.

5 Gorr The God Butcher Gorr The God Butcher was built up to be an extremely menacing villain in Thor: Love and Thunder. He had emotional origins as a father who experienced tragic loss and then was betrayed by the Gods he trusted the most. This helps explain why Gorr took such extremely evil actions to get his revenge, whether it was right or not. Gorr had great power with the influence of the Necrosword, even if Thor: Love and Thunder only showed him slaying a handful of Gods.

Though Wenwu’s fate seems like atonement for his actions, it would’ve been interesting for the MCU to keep him alive so he could develop a new dynamic with his children. Wenwu gave Shang Chi the rings knowing that his son could use them for good, and it would’ve been a full-circle moment for Shang Chi if he then saved his father from the Dweller. Wenwu wouldn’t have to become a hero of any sort, but keeping him alive would’ve added an extra dimension to Shang Chi and Xialing’s MCU futures.

Black Panther showed a bit of this pair’s potential as they stole from the Museum of Great Britain, and it begs the question of what could’ve been, with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler even saying that he regretted killing Klaue. Even if Killmonger chose to part ways with Klaue and critically wound him, having Klaue get away somehow would’ve left him as a lurking threat. As one of Wakanda’s greatest enemies, Klaue surely would’ve played a part in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
