The first shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. in west Birmingham. The second happened about 30 minutes later in the city's Smithfield community.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Battalion Chief Clay Hendon said a 45-year-old sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to UAB Hospital in critical condition. The second and third shootings happened about 30 minutes later in the Smithfield and are possibly related to each other. North Precinct officer responded at 7:29 p.m. to a report of a female shot in the 100 block of Ninth Ave. North. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
