Hannah Einbinder's Ava and Jean Smart's Deborah at the magazine photoshoot in Hacks Season 4, Episode 1
Hacks is set to kick off its fourth season tomorrow, and everyone is curious if it holds up as well as previous seasons. The first three seasons are as close to perfection as a show can get, according to Rotten Tomatoes, with Seasons 1 and 2 each earning 100% before Season 3 experienced a slight dip to 98%.
It’s important to note that a career-low season for Hacks would be a career-best for most other shows. Enough early reviews for Hacks Season 4 have come in that the show has earned yet another perfect 100% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. This comes from only 10 reviews at the time of writing, so it is subject to change, but it’s a perfect start and return to form for the hit Max series. Hacks explores the unlikely connection between Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels . Deborah is an old comedian whose career is starting to dwindle until she gets canceled for an old and irrelevant tweet, and Ava is a young comedy writer who has what it takes to bring her back into relevancy. Despite some hesitation and apprehension, the two form a bond that blossoms into a mentorship. Jean Smart is known for her role as Rita Blackburn in The Accountant, but she will not return for the sequel coming to theaters this month. Einbinder is also known for her roles in other projects, such as North Hollywood and Julia. Hacks was created for TV by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky, with Aniello helming 16 episodes and Downs directing six to date. Will There Be Another Season of ‘Hacks’? Close The creators of Hacks have been very transparent that the show was planned out for five seasons from the jump. Although it has yet to be officially renewed for Season 5, that announcement is expected to come sometime before the end of the fourth season, if not shortly after. However, one of the creators of Hacks, Jen Statsky, recently revealed that she and the team would not rule out Hacks continuing beyond Season 5 if the writers can find a way to keep things fresh and earn it. Although a five-season run is “still the plan,” fans shouldn’t give up hope for more Hacks beyond Season 5. Hacks Season 4 premieres tomorrow. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the series, and watch the first three seasons of Hacks on Max.
