A 19-year-old Asian elephant at the Zurich Zoo gave birth this weekend to a male calf whose name, starting with the letter Z, will be announced this week. A light-sensitive monitoring camera picked up the birth before dawn Saturday and the baby's earliest, wobbly steps inside the zoo’s Kaeng Krachan Elephant Park.
FOR THE LEDGER Meet this week’s Pet of the Week, Grumpy. Don’t let her name fool you, this beautiful tabby is sweet, laid back, and would make a wonderful lap cat. Grumpy is about 10 years old and loves to take naps.
She came to SOS Animal Shelter from a local pound and has settled in well. She’s getting along famously with the other cats after just a short adjustment period. She would love a home where she could hang out on a warm lap, or nap on a soft chair. Grumpy is spayed and up to date on all her vaccinations.
