) - A Sheffield man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he disrupted a Lauderdale County Drug Task Force operation and resisted arrest Wednesday evening in Florence .
According to the Lauderdale County Drug Task Force, investigators executed a search warrant Wednesday on N. Locust StreetTask force officials say 46-year-old David Culliver, of Sheffield, arrived at the scene but was not involved in the investigation and “inserted himself” into the situation. Investigators say Culliver became belligerent, yelled at officers, and stepped into an active roadway with traffic. Officers repeatedly warned him to get out of the roadway, officials said.
Officers then told him he was under arrest, but he pulled away and resisted as officers tried to handcuff him, the task force said. A Florence Police K-9 was deployed to help take Culliver into custody. During the apprehension, authorities say Culliver grabbed one of the K-9’s legs and bit the dog.
Officers struck Culliver to make him release the K-9, and Culliver was taken to the ground, handcuffed, and transported to North Alabama Medical Center for treatment of K-9 puncture wounds. He was later booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
