Interior rivers are open and navigable.
Published: May. 28, 2024 at 11:32 AM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - As break up season comes to an end we find ourselves with warmer waters in the interior compared to other parts of the state.
Closer to Kotzebue, the Noatak and Kobuk Rivers both have areas of mostly ice near the coast with areas of the river that are further inland being partly or mostly open. The Buckland river still has ice throughout most of the river.In the greater Anchorage area, the Susitna River is open near the coast but has areas of ice in the Talkeetna Mountains as does the Yetna River going into the Alaska Range.
Out of Bethel, the Kuskokwim River is completely open and the Yukon River is Frozen by the coast opening up further inland. Reaching the interior, the Yukon is completely open but it still holds some ice near the Canadian border.
