“People know that they need supplements. They have good intentions about starting a routine, but the drop-off is so significant,” CEO and co-founder Cleo Davis-Urman told CNBC.
“So we’re trying to solve the biological and tackle those efficacy and absorption issues, but we’re also trying to make it more fun and enjoyable and convenient and comfortable, so that people are actually sticking to their routines. ” Supplement products have seen increasing demand in recent years, as health and wellness have become trending topics.
However, the market is largely unregulated by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, and Barrière’s products are not FDA-approved. Davis-Urman told CNBC that the U.K.-based company undergoes “the strictest regulations possible” under an FDA-equivalent agency. Barrière also recently released a motion sickness patch and sells ones specifically for immunity, sleep, travel and more. Its products are sold in major retailers like Target and Ulta, ranging from $13 to $18 for monthly packs.
The patches are transdermal stickers that use body heat to deliver ingredients directly into the bloodstream and can work for up to 12 hours at a time, according to the CEO.
