Coach Benjy Taylor and civil rights attorneys will hold a news conference at The Westin Atlanta Airport hotel on Friday.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Tuskegee University ’s head basketball coach, who was handcuffed and escorted off the court during a game in January, has announced a lawsuit against Morehouse College and two campus police officers involved in the incident.

On Jan. 31, the Alabama-based Tuskegee played at Morehouse in Atlanta, losing 77-69. After the game, Head Coach Benjy Taylor’s attorneys said he asked an officer to have Morehouse College football players removed after they tried to get into the handshake line, as required by conference security rules.“I am at a loss for words and I am upset about how I was violated and treated today,” Taylor previously told, a college basketball media network. “For my players, my family and people of Tuskegee to witness that is heartbreaking for me. I was simply trying to get the football team out of the handshake line as they were following right behind me and the team yelling obscenities! It was a very dangerous situation.” On Friday, Taylor and his attorneys spoke out about the incident, claiming he was trying to de-escalate the situation and that the arresting officer sided with the players. “Coach Taylor is a good man who did the right thing to protect his team and de-escalate a dangerous situation, and this officer put him in chains for his troubles,” Attorney Harry Daniels said. “Colleges and universities are supposed to be an example for our young people, and the lesson this example teaches is not only reprehensible, it’s illegal.”Taylor was never charged, and the conference fined Morehouse College for failing to meet required security standards. This is a developing story.
