The Artemis II crew has broken the record for the farthest distance traveled by humans, reaching 252,752 miles from Earth. The crew also dedicated a moon crater to the late wife of the mission commander. The mission is paving the way for future lunar missions, including Artemis III and IV.

The crew of Artemis II has traveled farther than any other human, and will reach a maximum distance of 252,752 miles from Earth. The previous record was held by Apollo 13 in 1970. As Tuesday dawned, Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman continued to beam back pictures of the previous day's lunar rendezvous, which set a new distance record for humanity. The highlight:The four astronauts of the Artemis II mission named a moon crater “Carroll” as a tribute to the late wife of commander Reid Wiseman. The first lunar explorers since Apollo 17 in 1972, Wiseman and his crew are aiming for a Friday splashdown off the San Diego coast on Friday to wrap up the nearly 10-day test flight. It sets the stage for next year's Artemis III, a lunar lander docking demo in orbit around Earth.
