A discovery has been made in the ongoing search for a boater who went missing on the Alabama River early Saturday morning, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
ALEA state troopers say the 12-foot Jon boat that James R. Dawkins , 54, of Wetumpka , launched onto the river Saturday was found 92 miles south of the launch site. The boat was found Wednesday by the Selma - Dallas County Rescue Squad near the Robert F.
Henry Lock and Dam in Dallas County.Search efforts have expanded since the boat’s discovery and the Unified Command Post at Cooter’s Pond on the Alabama River in Autauga County has been shut down. The Elmore County Emergency Management Agency , Autauga County EMA, Montgomery County EMA, Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, Autauga County Sheriff’s Office, Millbrook Police Department, Prattville Fire Department, Autauga County Search and Rescue, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources , have all been assisting in the search. Due to weather conditions, ALEA is asking that the public not conduct their own searches at this time.
