Leaders said this is just the beginning, with more events planned in the months ahead.
DOTHAN, Ala. - Houston County cut the ribbon on its new farm center on Wednesday, drawing a big crowd as leaders celebrated the facility’s past and what it can mean for the county’s future.
“I do remember the first Peanut Festival I attended was held right here,” said Mary Reed, membership director of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce. Organizers say the farm center is built to host everything from events to large community gatherings, creating a new venue for the region. For younger generations, the center is also a way to keep local traditions going while creating something new.
“Community is the basis for foundation, for everything,” said Sophia Contin, Miss Houston County 2026. “My wish is that the current and future generations will be able to build their own memories just like this for decades to come,” said Brandon Shoupe, chairman of the Houston County Commission. The Houston County Farm Center is now booking events. Organizers say they expect it to draw visitors from across the Wiregrass.
