“The Curious Savage” by John Patrick is a silly story of some serious family drama.
The show is set at a mental institution called The Cloisters filled with quirky individuals with some bizarre and unusual tendencies.
Determined to keep the money for themselves, the Savage children put their stepmother in the sanitorium, claiming her pursuit of dreams and new-found eccentric demeanor are proof that she’s gone insane. Ethel Savage seems unbothered by her commitment to a mental institution and immediately begins bonding with the other residents, quickly finding she has far more in common with the ‘insane’ than her remaining family. Not to mention, she has more fun with them, too.
But when the money goes unfound, they return one more time, refusing to leave without the true location of the money. Cornered, Ethel finally reveals where she hid the fortune. But it’s not the end for Mrs. Savage as her newfound friends all jump in to cause chaos and protect not just Ethel’s fortune, but the future of her dreams.
