A pet health company has issued a nationwide recall of several canine milk replacer products after discovering inconsistent levels of Vitamin D that could pose serious health risks to dogs.Revival Animal Health announced the recall of its Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Canine and Shelter’s Choice Canine Milk Replacer s following an internal investigation.

The Iowa-based company found that some of the canine milk replacers contained either too little or excessively high levels of Vitamin D, a nutrient that can be harmful in large quantities.The products are milk replacers for puppies to support healthy growth and development, according to product descriptions. So far, two cases of rickets – a condition linked to insufficient Vitamin D – have been reported in connection with the products. This reflects the variability in nutrient levels identified during the investigation.The recall was initiated after an investigation determined that the product had variable levels of Vitamin D, resulting in both low and elevated levels in some of the canine milk replacers.The recalled items were distributed nationwide through both online retailers and pet stores.
