While 2024 saw persistent full-screen prompts urging users to switch, Microsoft is now calling 2025 'the year of the Windows 11 PC refresh.' This follows a similar strategy in 2024, declared 'the year of the AI PC,' which led to the launch of Copilot Plus PCs.
Microsoft is making its presence felt at CES 2025 by asserting that refreshing a Windows 10 PC will be more crucial than acquiring a new TV or phone this year. Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's executive vice president and consumer chief marketing officer, states that the most important technology people will want to upgrade in 2025 is their Windows 10 PC, moving towards Windows 11. Mehdi believes Windows 11 arrives at a pivotal moment, positioned at the forefront of AI innovation. 2025 is anticipated to be a significant year for Windows AI features, particularly after the delayed launch of Recall in 2024. Microsoft has yet to release its enhanced AI-powered Windows Search features to Insiders, despite unveiling them in October.
