Gov. Mike Dunleavy and various law enforcement officials held a press conference on narcotics interdiction in Alaska on Thursday at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gov. Mike Dunleavy, R-Alaska, and various law enforcement officials held a press conference on narcotics interdiction in Alaska at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport .

The full list of law enforcement officials is made up of Sara Carter, Office of National Drug Control Policy director, James Cockrell, Department of Public Safety commissioner, Alaska Attorney General Stephen Cox and U.S. Attorney Michael Heyman. The press conference focused on the multi-agency approach the state has employed to fight drug trafficking. Officials at the press conference say the collaboration is a comprehensive effort to address drug addiction in Alaska. Dunleavy said he believes the state’s partnership with the Municipality of Anchorage on the issue is going well after meeting with Mayor Suzanne La France and her staff Wednesday. Working in collaboration with the Municipality and the federal government, the state will be able to make a large dent in drug interdiction, he said. “I ran for governor with a mission to improve public safety,” Dunleavy said. “Stopping illegal drugs from entering Alaska is a key part of keeping Alaska safe.” From August 2024 to August 2025, overdose deaths in Alaska dropped by about 19%, according to provisional CDC data, and millions of doses of fentanyl have been seized by law enforcement during the same period.Man on FBI’s wanted fugitive list arrested in AlaskaDawson’s Creek actor James Van Der Beek dies at 48
