Shelley Duvall , who grew up in Houston and was terrorized by an ax-wielding Jack Nicholson in ' The Shining ,' died Thursday in Texas . She was 75 years old. Her partner Dan Gilroy confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter , saying, 'My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she's free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.
Jack was so good — so damn scary. I can only imagine how many women go through this kind of thing,' Duvall told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021. Duvall also starred as Olive Oyl in Altman's musical adaptation of 'Popeye,' a role she was 'born to play,' according to film critic Roger Ebert. Reviews at the time were negative, but it has since became a cult classic.
