Matthew Lack charged with felonious assault after firing two rounds at another driver's truck

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Ohio - A man has been arrested after he shot at another vehicle in Springfield Township, according to police records. Springfield Township police were dispatched to 6400 Harrison Road on Friday for a shooting that allegedly occurred on Vine Street in Springfield Township.

The police report obtained by FOX19 NOW shows that a male in a blue Buick SUV fired two rounds into a gold truck in the area of Vine Street and Shadybrook Lane. The incident started on Springfield Pike near the border of Springfield Township and Wyoming where the road expands from one lane to two. The victim driving the gold truck told police they entered the left lane to pass another vehicle when they noticed the blue Buick behind them. The victim admitted to police that they brake-checked the Buick as they passed through Vine Street and Galbraith Road. The two vehicles ended up next to each other at a light at the intersection of Vine Street and Shadybrook Lane. The victim says they saw the backseat window of the Buick lower, and a male in the back seat fired two rounds at the victim’s car.According to the police report, the driver of the Buick says that the victim in the gold truck cut him off when attempting to pass a slow-moving vehicle when Springfield Pike goes from one lane to two.The driver says, at one point, the victim says something to the effect of “I’ll blow your brains out” while the vehicles were both stopped in traffic. It was at this point that the driver’s son, Matthew Lack, fired two rounds at the truck from the rear passenger window. When interviewed by police, the report says that Matthew’s account of the situation aligned with his father’s, except that he says his father flipped off the victim. Matthew told police that it was after he saw a firearm at a stoplight that he fired rounds at the victim. Both Matthew and his father struggled to describe the gun, according to the report, but agreed that it was silver. No weapon found on the victimNo firearm was found in the vehicle, nor anything resembling a firearm, police say. The report does say that officers saw that the driver-side window was broken and the victim had a minor injury to the left armpit/tricep area consistent with broken glass from the gunshots.Matthew told police that he called them as soon as he pulled over after firing shots, but the police say the call came from 3 miles away from the scene. After initially contacting police, the report says they drove 30 minutes and passed through multiple jurisdictions.Officers determined that none of the passengers in the blue Buick could clearly describe the weapon the victim allegedly displayed, and there was no evidence suggesting the victim possessed a firearm at all. Mathew was arrested and charged with felonious assault and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.
