Investigators say the suspect, a 40-year-old woman, first caused a disturbance at a convenience store near the apartment complex. Police say she pulled out a knife and began chasing a man. He was able to get away unharmed. But officers say the woman then walked into the nearby apartment complex, where witnesses say people were already running from her before anyone was stabbed.
According to investigators, the suspect approached a mother and her 7-year-old child and threatened to stab them. The two made it safely back inside their apartment without injury. But investigators say a 42-year-old woman was stabbed three times in the stomach, and her 69-year-old husband was stabbed twice in the stomach and once in the back. Despite their injuries, both victims were able to make it upstairs to their apartment before family members called 911.
Police say investigators are still trying to determine whether the woman was experiencing a mental health crisis. Authorities said the suspect mentioned she was taking seizure medication, but it remains unclear whether she is homeless or where she lives.
