Robert Rodriguez's band Chingon will open for George Lopez's Frost Bank Center show with hits from 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' and 'Kill Bill 2.'
George Lopez is welcoming fans to his San Antonio comedy show this weekend with a bit of local flair. Opening for Lopez at Frost Bank Center Saturday is Chingon , a band formed by composer, director and San Antonio native Robert Rodriguez .
You might recognize his work from such films as 'Kill Bill 2,' 'From Dusk to Dawn' and 'Spy Kids.' Rodriguez formed Chingon to fulfill his vision for films combining the Spaghetti Western with Mexican culture. Self-described as a mashup of mariachi, surf music and garage rock, Chingon scored Rodriguez's films 'Machete' and 'Machete Kills.' The band features Rodriguez as composer, singer, and co-producer, accompanied by drummer Rafael Gayol and guitarists Rick and Mark Del Castillo. 'All killer no filler, see you there!' Rodriguez wrote on X about the upcoming performance. Tickets for Lopez's San Antonio leg of the 'ALLLRIIIIGHHTTT!' tour are available on the Frost Bank Center website, and the show starts at 8 p.m.
