Michael Earnhart, a skier from Anchorage, won the 1.4K Free Technique Sprint at the 2025 U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships. He edged out fellow APU athletes Luke Jager and John Steel Hagenbuch, securing a significant victory on his home trails. Mariel Pulles took first place in the women's race.

ANCHORAGE , Alaska - On the sixth and final day of the 2025 U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships, Mother Nature saved her best for last as some of the top skiers in America were greeted with wind and overnight rain, creating some icy, speedy conditions.

Anchorage skier Michael Earnhart advanced to the men’s finals alongside National Champions Luke Jager and John Steel Hagenbuch. On his home trails, Earnhart out-paced the competition down the final stretch with his ski-tip crossing the finish line first at 2:51.95 for the U.S. SuperTour victory. Earnhart continued saying, ”Like Luke beats me all the time, this is a really rare victory for me over him. It gives me a lot of confidence going forward that I can compete with all of these guys. I started this season on the World Cup, and it didn’t go great...well, for me it was probably alright, but getting like 50’s and 60’s doesn’t feel that good, so to come back and here and win, it makes me feel like I can still ski, you know.

Including Kramer’s National Championship and Pulles’ performance, it was a strong showing from the Nanooks.
